Say "jiàn miàn" in Yunmeng and you are making a date — it means "let's meet." Say it the county's new way, with the characters 简面 (bamboo slip + noodle), and you are naming a travel route. On September 15, 2026, Yunmeng officially launched the "Jian-Mian Yunmeng" itinerary at a press conference on geographical-indication products and cultural tourism, and the pun is deliberate: come to Yunmeng, meet its slips, taste its noodles. One county media line puts the slogan plainly — "A bowl of fish noodles, and you understand Yunmeng."
What the Route Actually Is
The route links six stops into a single loop, according to the county's launch coverage carried by Hubei Daily and the provincial IP office:
- Yunmeng County Museum — home of the Shuihudi Qin slips, including the wooden letter of Heifu and Jing, the earliest surviving "home letter" in China;
- Shuihudi archaeological site — where tomb No. 11 yielded 1,155 Qin slips in 1975, with a recreated pit scene visitors can walk through;
- Yunmeng fish noodle heritage workshop — the new production-and-experience base in Shuihudi community (details below);
- Huangxiang Culture Hall — dedicated to the Han dynasty paragon of filial devotion;
- Chu King City — the Chu capital ruins park, now paired with the "Spring-Autumn Fantasy City" night park;
- Xiangyun Bay cultural tourism zone — reconstructed historic architecture clusters with evening light shows.
The six stops map onto six kinds of experience the county wants to sell as one product: research-study on the slips, hands-on heritage at the workshop, historic architecture, food tasting, family-values culture, and ecology and leisure. The accompanying logo fuses a bamboo slip and a noodle strand into a single round badge with cloud, wave and fish-scale motifs — "slip and noodle sharing one form."
The Workshop Stop: Open Since October 1
The fish noodle heritage workshop — covered in detail in our earlier report — is the route's newest piece. Municipal-level inheritor Liu Wenhua, who helped plan the facility, stated in August interviews that it would open to the public on October 1, 2026. County investment in the project is described as nearly 20 million yuan, and the site combines production, a heritage display, research-study teaching and hands-on sessions where visitors roll fish dough themselves. Regular public classes are planned to continue the free heritage lessons the county trialled at its library in August.
One honest caveat: as of October 12, we have not yet found dedicated post-opening coverage in county media confirming daily hours or any ticketing. The opening date rests on the inheritor's on-record statements and the county's repeated "opens in October" commitment. If you are travelling specifically for the workshop, call ahead or check our 2026 news tracker (中文) — we update it when verifiable details appear.
The Golden Week That Stress-Tested the Route
The launch was timed three weeks before the combined Mid-Autumn and National Day holiday — and the county's own post-holiday review, published October 9, reads like a stress test the route passed:
- The 68-yuan combined ticket for Xiangyun Bay and the Chu King City night park (valid September 25 – October 7) sold 18,000 copies, with half-price guiding at the museum and discounts at fifteen partner businesses;
- The county museum ranked seventh among all museums in Hubei province by holiday visits, with visitors staying an average of 2.5 hours; its "four seals" passport game handed out nearly 10,000 gift boxes;
- Xiangyun Bay's phase three opened September 25 and drew 360,000 visits over the holiday;
- CCTV's Focus Interview Mid-Autumn special featured the Heifu family letter from the Yunmeng museum, pushing the "letter home" story nationwide again;
- Across the holiday the county ran 22 themed events, and its media matrix logged over 33 million content views.
The same review names the "Jian-Mian Yunmeng" route as the thread tying the slips culture and the fish noodle GI product together — which is bureaucratese for: this route is now the county's official answer to "what should I do in Yunmeng?"
The Industry Behind the Bowl
The route is also an industrial policy. At the September launch, the county gave its current fish noodle industry figures as 23 producers with an annual output value of 260 million yuan, and set public targets after the workshop opens: grow output value by 15 percent and research-study and experience visitors by 25 percent. A Legal Daily feature published October 9 adds a demand-side data point: online sales of Yunmeng fish noodles are up about 50 percent year on year, helped by livestream demos and in-store "cloud shelf" QR codes in 23 partner retail shops.
One caveat on numbers, as usual with county reporting: earlier 2026 coverage cited "30-plus producers" and "400 million yuan." The newer September figures (23 producers, 260 million yuan) come from the county's own press conference and the provincial IP office's write-up, so we use those; the discrepancy likely reflects whether only licensed GI users are counted. We flag it rather than smooth it over.
Planning a Day on the Route
Morning: the county museum first — it opens at 9:00, entry is free, and the holographic "Xi," the Qin clerk who copied the slips into his tomb, is worth the queue. Ninety minutes covers the highlights; holiday programmes extend closing to 18:30.
Midday: walk about 50 metres left of the museum exit to our own restaurant — run by this site's team — for fish noodles three ways (braised in mutton broth, stir-fried with pickled mustard greens, or deep-fried crisp). We serve 8:30–20:30 daily; details on the visit page (中文). New to the dish itself? Start with what Yunmeng fish noodles are.
Afternoon: the fish noodle heritage workshop in Shuihudi community for the hands-on session (confirm hours in advance — see the caveat above), then either the Chu King City park or Xiangyun Bay for the evening light shows.
Getting there: Yunmeng East station sits on the Wuhan–Shiyan high-speed line; since June 30, 2026 the Shiyan–Xi'an section has completed the Wuhan–Xi'an corridor, with Xi'an–Wuhan down to 2 hours 41 minutes at fastest. Confirm trains on official rail channels.
